Below are some notable projects FEMA will help fund for the state and local communities: $22 million to the Georgia Emergency Management Agency to temporarily shelter 1,500 displaced survivors at 113 hotels throughout the state. $17 million to the Satilla Rural Electric Membership Corporation for emergency power restoration and utility repairs in Appling and Jeff Davis counties. $2.9 million to Nashville for the removal of more than 95,000 cubic yards of vegetative debris and nearly 600 cubic yards of construction and demolition debris from public rights of way. $1.1 million to Berrien County for management costs related to the storm. $727,400 to Albany to repair utilities. $305,800 to Irwin County for management costs related to the storm. $201,600 to The Family YMCA of Greater Augusta for debris removal efforts. FEMA is reimbursing these costs at no less than a 75% federal cost share through its Public Assistance program, which provides funds for state and local governments’ response and recovery work. Additionally, FEMA approved mitigation projects that prevent, eliminate or reduce disaster-related damage, including: $2 million for the Bryan County stormwater master plan to minimize the effects of flooding. $1.9 million for the city of Pooler stormwater master plan to minimize the effects of flooding. $1.5 million to Columbia County to supply weather radios for the county’s population. $1.2 million for the city of Springfield’s proposal to develop a stormwater master plan. Specialists at the centers can help with FEMA applications and U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) loans and can address questions about federal and state assistance. They are accessible to those with limited mobility and can interact with those who are deaf or hard of hearing and those who speak a language other than English. FEMA assistance can help pay for temporary housing, displacement, home repair costs, personal property loss and other disaster-caused expenses.
