FEMA Announces More than $420 Million in Federal Funds to Support Emergency Management Across the Country WASHINGTON – FEMA today announced more than $420 million in two funding opportunities to empower state, local, tribal and territorial government agencies to strengthen their emergency response capabilities and their resilience to potential catastrophic incidents. FEMA is disbursing this money through two separate grant programs. Through the Emergency Management Performance Grant program, FEMA is providing $337 million to state, local, Tribal Nation and territorial governments to invest in training and equipment for emergency response personnel. Through the Emergency Operations Center Grant program, FEMA is providing $83 million to enhance state emergency operations centers, which serve as centralized hubs to coordinate information, resources and decision making during a crisis. Both of these programs are focused on building and strengthening emergency preparedness and response capabilities at the state and local level, helping ensure Americans are protected in times of greatest need. “Emergency management works best when it is locally executed, state-led and federally supported,” said Robert J. Fenton Jr., Senior Official Performing the Duties of the FEMA Administrator. “The funding announced today is one way that FEMA empowers communities to invest in their disaster response and recovery capabilities. By building robust emergency management systems and ensuring first responders have the right training and equipment, states are better prepared to lead when disaster strikes.” The funding opportunities published today span two separate grant programs: The Fiscal Year (FY) 2026 Emergency Management Performance Grant program makes $337 million available to state, local, Tribal Nation and territorial governments to bolster their emergency management organizations. In years past, recipients have used these funds to hire and train more staff, buy critical equipment like generators and mobile command vehicles and establish interoperable communications systems to help first responders connect during disasters. The FY 2026 Emergency Operations Center (EOC) Grant program makes nearly $83 million available to states and local governments to construct, upgrade or equip secure, interoperable Emergency Operations Centers. During a crisis, Emergency Operations Centers serve as a centralized hub where representatives from various agencies and multiple jurisdictions coordinate with each other. This prevents communication breakdowns, eliminates duplicate efforts and ensures a rapid, unified response to safeguard communities. The application period for both grant programs opens on June 15, 2026, and will close on July 15, 2026. Eligible applicants can review the full funding opportunities for both programs on Grants.gov. amy.ashbridge Mon, 06/15/2026 - 15:36
